Adjournment sine die
May 1st, 2008 by Derrick DePledgeThe Capitol Notebook is closing with the end of the session. We hope to be back just before the next session in January.
We’d like to thank all of the state representatives and senators and staff — especially the staff — for their patience with our many requests for information.
We invite our blog readers to look for our stories on government and politics in the print and online versions of The Advertiser. Please continue to share tips and story ideas.

Thanks Derrick and Treena for posting this blog, particularly for us legislative folks to enjoy, giggle, and sometimes maybe even reflect on what we are doing in that building. We’ll all miss you in the interim. See you next year!

Kudos to both of you. I do believe this is the most relevant blog here. Granted, it doesn’t generate the fervor of Colt Brennan getting drafted but for anyone interested in the ebb and flow of the legislature, this is a must read site.
See you next session!
p.s. You may want to stay away from posting about the house/senate parties. You struck a nerve there, obviously.

I really enjoyed your blog for it often told me about goings on I would not have heard about otherwise. Keep up the good work and best wishes. You will be missed.

Your blog was definitely the most interesting, timely and relevant out there this session. Great work on keeping it updated every day.

You two had a great blog. You gave us stuff that we had little knowlege about and you did it with honesty and intelligence, the two characteristics that the best blogs have. We’ll miss you until January.

Does the State government shut down when the session ends? Sure hope they let you continue to blog whenever beat you take on Derrick.

Awesome job. I hope we get some pieces here and there in the off-season as well.

DOug and Treena,
Thanks for all your work on this blog. The Capitol Notebook has become the best online source for current insider political news in the statte. You have had interesting articles, which have managed to elicit semi-anonymous responses from knowledgeable sources. This has made it THE “go to” spot for political news. I think it has shown how the Internet can effectively complement a print edition of a newspaper.
The legislative session is over, but Hawaii politics continues year-round and Derrick DePledge will be on the beat. While I am sure the CN requires a lot of work, I think there is an ongoing need for a blog of this sort. Burris’s blog is too irregular and his postings so bland that I rarely read it or post comments. Shapiro has settled into his role as a cantankerous, opinionated bitter cynic, locked into the prejudices of a small older haole male viewpoint and unable to fairly reflect on opinions that do not match his own. The Advertiser discussion boards are a disastrous waste of time.
In short, I will miss you. Maybe I’ll lobby for a special session. Not to solve any outstanding political problems, but to force you to bring back the Capitol Notebook so I can get my fix.

Aww, shucks. Umm, Kolea, I think you meant to write “Derrick” and Treena. Heh.
Seriously, though, what Andy said!

You are correct, Doug,
I guess I was already reconciling myself to relying upon your blog for insightful political commentary while Derrick is on hiatus! I’ve depended on you, Derrick and Ian for the inside scoop.
